  • Xylem Work Anniversaries Q2 2025 | Xylem

Service Anniversaries Congratulations to all of those who celebrated a milestone anniversary this past quarter (April - June)! We appreciate your service! Gary Johnson How did you get your start with the company? I was working at a tire store, and a friend of mine was working here, and he said he could get me a job. I started as a groundman and journeyman tree trimmer and worked my way up. What has kept you with the company? My boss, the ownership, they’ve been absolutely fantastic to work for and trust. Kari (Hasko, Regional Business Partner) treats everyone with respect. What advice would you give your younger self? I just continue doing what I always did, just do what I was asked and try to do that to the best of my ability. What has been your most rewarding experience with the company? To see other employees come in and start from the bottom and work their way into a journeyman card, and live the life they’d like to live, build a family, and buy a house. May 2025 Edition Check out how the inaugural GF school went, where you can find us on social media, the latest IT training, and how a crew in North Carolina not only helped repair a woman's deck but also saved her life! Empowering Our Frontline: The New GF School Leads the Way The Learning and Development team has officially launched a new leadership initiative: the General Foreperson (GF) School. The inaugural session took place in Norfolk, VA, bringing together 25 enthusiastic participants, including GFs and supervisors, for an immersive four-day experience. With the support of 20 corporate team members who spoke and helped facilitate activities, the event was a resounding success. Throughout the week, attendees explored critical topics such as hiring best practices, compliance, coaching, safety protocols, and operational technology. They also had the opportunity to tour our Norfolk office and engage with teams from Business Development, Finance, HR, IT, Legal, Marketing, and Resource Readiness—broadening their understanding of how all departments contribute to our mission. Feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive. One participant shared their appreciation for the experience and the work of Joy Lacher , Assistant Director of Learning & Development, and her team, writing “Thank you so much for all of your diligence and expertise! You have made this a very entertaining and interactive week. A lot of information was covered, and your planning and precision allowed it to all be presented in a successful manner. Celebrating Arbor Day at Wakefield! Happy Arbor Day! Our Norfolk Corporate Team had the pleasure of joining the incredible staff at the Wakefield Fleet and Logistics facility for our third annual celebration. Julie Orton , Corporate Fleet Controller, led a tour of the depot, highlighting the Care Center and Shop Division. Crew Helps Elderly Lady During a recent job in North Carolina, our crew (pictured from left to right: GF Martin Rivera, Foreperson Maykel Martin Perez, Foreperson Jose Laureano, Foreperson Angel Quinones, and Assistant GF/Pre-Planner Awilda Rivera ) pulled up to a house to begin working and an elderly woman came out of the house to see what was happening and ended up falling through her wooden deck with her leg dangling through the hole. Without hesitation, Jose Laureano and Maykel Perez rushed to help, ensuring she was safe and comfortable until EMS arrived. Thanks to their quick response – and the support of the rest of the team - she received care and was later taken to the hospital as a precaution. The crew went a step further, pooling funds to repair the damaged deck. This unexpected moment reminded us why awareness, compassion, and teamwork matter every day. We're proud of our team’s swift action and grateful they were there when it counted. Compliments for the Crew A customer called to commend our crew (Michael Hampton, Fallon Rowe, Josh Elder, Devonta Poteat, and Casey Thrailkill ) for work they did on the trees on his property. October GF School is Complete! I just wanted to extend a thank you for the GF school I attended last week. I’ll be honest, I really wasn't wanting to come. After I got there and classes started, I was glued. I enjoyed every min. It lit a fire in me. I was getting numb, I guess you could say, to my role and job. Now, after attending, I am looking at Power BI scores closely. Looking at ways to improve. I know to reach out to different departments for help. I hope this class just gets better for future students. Thank you all so much. I know I didn't include everyone, please let all involved know I truly appreciate their time and knowledge. Thank you again so much. I see a bigger picture of the company. - Richard Brooks , General Foreperson We wrapped another great GF School session with the following 10 attendees: Ashton Garza, Eric Niles, Jesus Montenegro Franco, Jimmy Fine, Joshua Owens, Justin Wilson, Ricky Anderson, Roberto Irizarry, Ross Clagg, and Scott Addington . Visit our Benefits site at xkig.hrbenefits.net Wellness Wednesdays For questions about your benefits, please email: benefits@wakendall.com Cold Weather Safety Reminder️ As temperatures drop, take extra precautions to stay safe both on and off the job. Dress in layers, protect exposed skin, and wear proper footwear to prevent slips on icy surfaces. Stay alert for changing weather conditions, take warm-up breaks when necessary, and watch for signs of cold stress such as numbness, shivering, or fatigue. Looking out for yourself and your teammates helps ensure everyone gets home safely, in any season. Healthy Resolutions That Stick Healthy resolutions don’t have to be big or complicated to make a difference. Small, realistic changes like taking a short walk each day, drinking more water, getting a little extra sleep, or packing a healthier lunch can add up over time. Focus on progress, not perfection, and choose habits that fit your routine and support your well-being. Simple, steady steps are often the ones that last the longest. Resolution #1: Skip the ER (Unless It’s Serious!) The ER should be your go‑to only for true emergencies — think life‑ or limb‑threatening situations. For everything else, start with your primary care provider. If it’s after hours, head to urgent care instead. You’ll save time, money, and get the right care faster. Here's a handy chart for finding the right care at the right place. By downloading the Anthem’s Sydney app , you’re one step closer to achieving healthy resolutions. Click on the video below to learn how the Sydney app can help you. Holiday Stress and the Blues The holidays often seem to be a time for family and cheer. However, that's not always true. Some people experience stress, depression, and even social isolation during this season. Here are 9 quick tips to help you this holiday season: Plan ahead Learn how to say “no” Stick to a shopping budget Create relaxing surroundings Maintain healthy habits Share your feelings with a trusted friend Respect differences in others Set realistic holiday expectations Take a break when you need one Remember, our two EAP options are available 24/7 and can help you manage your stress levels around the holidays – and beyond. June 2025 Edition Meet the Central Office team, see who attended the GF school, check out who obtained their CDLs and the large number of kudos from customers! Hurricane Season is Underway – meet the Central Office Team What’s open 24/7 and helps track daily field systems and storm response in real-time? If you said a national weather service, you would not be wrong. But another correct answer—that also makes your job easier—is the Central Office. Led by Tucker Miller , Director of Central Office, and Hannah Kallenbach , Central Office Manager, this team of eight makes sure our crews run safely and efficiently each and every single day, whether it’s during storm season or not. This includes making sure work time, safety forms, and pre-job planning are transparent to the office, customer, and employee. Central Office uses the UKG platform to get the right people moving around to the right job. From there, our CRM system aggregates data assets and crew information and flows it to Motive, the fleet management and driver safety platform. The Central Office is a pivotal part of headquarters in Norfolk, VA. The Storm Wall is always on and features six screens, with two weather stations, Motive GPS, an outage tracker, and any other details needed on the remaining screens. When our crews are sent for storm response, Central Office deals with the logistics of lodging, fuel cards (including getting them turned on and monitoring potential issues), and lining up everything else needed to get the job done. In the likely event of a power outage in a storm response situation, the Central Office can keep the communications going with the General Foreperson and customer, still putting together rosters, tracking hours worked, and uploading safety forms. Read more about our Storm Response and Restoration here: Storm Response & Restoration - Kendall Vegetation Services May GF School is Complete!
